The Oklahoma Veterans Rural Transportation Program will provide safe, caring, and quality transportation services to and from the veteran’s VA facility of record and/or healthcare provider to which the veteran has been appropriately referred in order to eliminate transportation barriers and afford veterans access to the care and health benefits they need.
The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs will use funding provided by the Grants for Transportation of Veterans in Highly Rural Areas program to provide transportation services over a multicounty area. The Oklahoma Veterans Rural Transportation Program (OVRTP) will cover the following counties: Beaver, Cimarron, Dewey, Ellis, Grant, Harmon, Harper, and Roger Mills. According to current ODVA statistics, the population of veterans eligible for services in these counties is 1,984.
This project is designed to provide transportation services to and from the veteran’s VA facility of record and/or a healthcare provider to which the veteran has been appropriately referred. Depending on the specific county in which the veteran lives, the appropriate and/or nearest facility may be in Oklahoma, Texas or Kansas. Table 1.1 below shows the distance between the target counties and the nearest likely facility of record.
